The Green-Schools Travel programme aims to encourage more students to regularly cycle. As a green school, we love to see our Springdalers cycling to school. We all know the many environmental and health benefits to cycling/scooting to school so it is great to see both our bike shelters packed with bikes and scooters, and not only on the sunny days!
In a recent survey on cycling, children from Senior Infants and 4th Class reported that since bike/scooter parking has become available at our school, thanks to Green Schools Ireland, they have noticed that a lot more people cycle and that they are not worried about their bikes getting knocked over. They would like more cycle lanes along the route to school as it would make it a lot safer. They enjoy cycling because it is fun and they have become stronger and more confident on their bikes. They also enjoy being able to cycle with their friends. They would love some ramps so that they can practise their tricks but I don’t think we’re quite ready for that yet!!
Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling. This year it will take place from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th May 2024.
In Springdale we hope that everyone, who can, will make an extra effort to cycle or scoot to school on Friday 17th May to mark Bike Week.
Get on your bike!
